Coming soon…

Lashes and Lacquer  will be making its comeback in the very near future with even more of the product reviews you’ve come to know and expect from me, and of course even more DIY beauty tutorials for you to love. I plan to have the first of the new content up and posted tentatively this spring. I’ve really missed writing about beauty products and reviewing them for you to read about, so it’s time to get this back up and running. I have especially missed swatching new polishes for you to all, which is the reason I first started Lashes and Lacquer — as an outlet for my infatuation with nail polishes. Keep an eye out and feel free to share any of your suggestions for future posts (product reviews, DIY, questions for me about anything beauty related, or anything at all!).xoxo

Just a Reminder!

makeupetcJust a friendly reminder to switch over to Makeup Etc. 🙂 Follow me there for my latest posts, as I will be deleting Lashes and Lacquer in the near future! Thanks everyone!

It’s here!

So my latest blog is up and running! You can find it at Makeup Etc.. I hope you’ll join me on my latest journey and tell your friends, too! It’s still in its beginning stage, so I don’t have a lot of content on it, yet, but I will be writing this week and sharing for you all to see. I am so happy to be starting not only 1, but 2, new phases in my life – Makeup Etc., and representing AVON. 2016 is shaping up nicely! I’d like to make the transition to Makeup Etc. as smoothly as possible, so follow me over there and see what new things I have in store for you. It will still include all of what you’ve come to love here at Lashes and Lacquer – skincare, makeup, nails, DIY, and product reviews. Makeup Etc. will have more of what you love.

Thank you, my lovely Lashes and Lacquer fans!

THE NEXT CHAPTER!

Good morning, lovies! You will never know how much I appreciate all of you following Lashes and Lacquer and reading about the products I’ve been trying and love. During my recent hiatus, I’ve started selling AVON (youravon.com/kyordy) and absolutely love it. But what I really want to share with you is that I am creating a new beauty blog for all of you to enjoy and I hope you will follow me there onto the next chapter! I have yet to decide on a name for the new blog, but once I do, I will post an update on here so you can join me! Until then, you can always refer to my past posts, some of which will be included in the new venture. Here’s to the next chapter!

|PRODUCT REVIEW: LAUREN B. BEAUTY ‘THE CHATEAU’|a

LAUREN B. BEAUTY 'THE CHATEAU'

LAUREN B. BEAUTY ‘THE CHATEAU’

Hi, everybody! Hope you’re making it through the week! Mine has been a busy one so far! As you saw before, I will be reviewing Lauren B. Beauty‘s ‘The Chateau’. I was very excited for them to so graciously send me this to swatch. I have always been pleased with the quality of polishes from this upstanding, earth-friendly company in Beverly Hills! All of their polishes are vegan, eco-friendly, and not tested on animals! All of their products are proudly made in USA, too 🙂

First, as you can see at the picture above, it is a beautiful, dark color for fall. It reminds me of a nice red wine! I used 2 coats of the Lauren B. Beauty ‘The Chateau’, and topped it off with Wet Paint ‘Top Coat Glaze’, another favorite of mine. Sorry you can see my cell phone reflection. Just shows how mirror-like the top coat is! 😉 What I really liked about ‘The Chateau’ is that it was very shiny even prior to the top coat addition. I do like using it anyway though because it will help prolong the color. Lauren B. Beauty does a great job at making long-lasting polishes, as it is, however!

While the prices are a little high, the colors are extraordinary and named after places in California, which is kind of neat! I really enjoy the selection and the fact that they hold out so well. I think I’m going to buy one of their nail care products soon since I love their polishes so much! Browse through it all here! Have a great Thursday, it’s almost the weekend!

PRODUCT REVIEW: FORMULA 10.0.6 ‘THREE TIMES SUBLIME’

'FORMULA 10.0.6 THREE TIMES SUBLIME'

‘FORMULA 10.0.6 THREE TIMES SUBLIME’

Okay, so I found ‘Formula 10.0.6’ at Ulta for only $6.99! Having never tried this brand, I figured why not? The packaging was very appealing to me, as well. Plus, it was buy one, get one half off, so I will have to review the other mask – ‘Pores Be Pure’ I bought soon! This particular mask claims, “Fromula Three Times Sublime is ideal for the busy socialite. It is the ultimate time saver and contains Pink Grapefruit, a subtropical citrus fruit that has an invigorating and uplifting fragrance to boost your mood and help cleanse. It also includes Jojoba beads to exfoliate, leaving you skin super smooth and ensuring you’ll never miss a moment with friends. So aside from Ulta.com’s spelling errors of the word Formula, you get the gist of it! The packaging also says it will help with stubborn blackheads, excess oil, and remove blemishes. The pink grapefruit, jojoba, and pomegranate REALLY give this a great smell.

First, I’ll start with the blackheads. While it did help make them less noticeable after gently using warm water and massaging the scrub-like mask off after 15 minutes (you can leave on 10-15 minutes), that subsided shortly after, and guess what? My blackheads are still there. They aren’t horrible, however, so I’m not complaining since it says to use this 1-3 times a week. If you use this and feel a heating sensation, that’s ok! It gets better with regular use. My skin is definitely smooth and helped the dry skin I complained about in the L’Oreal Hydra-Renewal post previously! I definitely recommend this and plan on checking out more of the Formula 10.0.6 line! Have you tried any of their products? Let me know what you think of them in the comments!

UNTIL I GET A NEW POST UP TODAY…

I thought maybe the newer followers could benefit from this past post if they haven’t yet read it! This post is originally from last November 21st and tells you how to take care of your brushes by cleaning them, and also the benefits of doing so. You’ll be glad you did! Read below to hopefully gain a little more insight on why it’s not only helping your brushes last, but also keeping YOU healthy when using them.

PS: For some reason when I hit the button to reblog it, it made the formatting look odd. Sorry! :\ Also, do you have a Poshmark closet? I’ve been looking to buy some new clothes! Brushes make all the difference to a makeup user’s finished masterpiece. Whether you are an aficionado, or a novice, your brushes are a valuable investment! Brush bristles are the perfect medium for trapping oil, dirt, and bacteria. Thoroughly cleansing your brushes can prevent breakout-causing buildup, while also making your investment last longer! If you’ve bought expensive brushes like I have, you can appreciate this!

I clean all of mine once a week and I use Sephora Purifying Brush Shampoo, but whenever I’m out of that, I use a simple, inexpensive shampoo (just 1 ingredient!) that still does the trick just as well (I’ll explain that, too). My go-to set of brushes takes about 1-2 days to dry, so I recommend having a backup set of brushes. My second set of brushes is from e.l.f. makeup. Their professional line is VERY high quality, and best of all, affordable!

1. Run brush bristles under lukewarm water. Be careful not to get water between the metal on the brush!

2014-11-21 17.50.48

2. In a shallow dish/plate, put a little bit of brush shampoo. Swirl the brush in your palm, creating a lather. You can use your palm, as well.

 2014-11-21 17.50.20

3. Rinse your brush under the water, again being careful to not get the brush wet beyond the base of the bristles! If you can see still makeup running off your brush, repeat step 2 again until the water runs clear.

4. Squeeze out any excess water and reshape the bristles. Lay flat on a towel or dry surface. (Don’t stand brushes up to dry, as this can cause water still left in the bristles to run into the metal, causing the glue to loosen!)

For an inexpensive brush shampoo alternative, I’ve used Palmolive Free & Clear Concentrated Dish Liquid. You can also use Dawn instead if you have that, too. A lot of blogs are saying to mix this or that with RUBBING ALCOHOL. That will dry your brushes out, and potentially shorten their life. If you wash your brushes once a week, they’ll last much longer than if you let them sit around and accumulate dirt and oil. In the long run, it’s well worth the 10 minutes it takes to wash them.

PRODUCT REVIEW: OPI ‘IN THE CABLE CAR-POOL LANE’ & MORE!

'In a Cable-Car Pool'

‘In The Cable-Car Pool Lane’

Let me start off by saying: I LOVE this color. It’s OPI ‘In The Cable-Car Pool Lane’ from their San Francisco Collection. I always have loved OPI and I’m so glad I found this shade when I was working at Sally’s because it was perfect to match with my shoes in my brother’s wedding. Now, the OPI site classifies it as a purple shade and even shows a purple nail polish that looks NOTHING like it in my opinion, but my bottle is not even questionable : it’s a burgundy. In fact, most sites I’ve visited show an entirely different polish they make. It does look different in different lighting, but that’s it. I would like to note my nails do look a bit darker than these photos, but still a gorgeous autumn shade!

Although I bought this for a spring wedding to match my bridesmaid outfit’s shoes, it’s a nice transition into fall with the darker color! It applied very smoothly. You have to do it evenly, though, with lighter strokes and thin layers since it is a darker color. I found that worked best for an even finish with no streaking. My final review is, spending the money on this is definitely worth the value. OPI never disappoints with chipping or fading. It lasts a really good amount of time and stays as vibrant as when you polished it on your nails.

'Counting Carats'

‘Counting Carats’

I decided to add gold glitter polish working from the bottom of the nail going up, and then lightening the stroke as I worked my way to the top. Using it as an accent nail or the tips would look great, too! I used China Glaze ‘Counting Carats’. As always, finish with your favorite top coat! I used Wet Paint Top Coat Glaze (You can see past swatches of Wet Paint from a previous post here!). I love all of the Wet Paint Nails polish that I’ve tried so far. The top coat glaze makes my polish last exceptionally long and keeps the colors bright, shiny, and resistant to chips. I also found it made my nails feel better/healthier while wearing it. If you want to head over to their site and take a look at the vast colors, please do! They also have nail treatments, and a REALLY fun ‘Try It On’ where you can virtually mix and match bases, glazes, and special effects polishes. I hope you enjoy this look as much as I had fun doing it! It’s a more basic, — yet beautiful and glamorous in the end– approach to nail art, and you can do a lot with glitter polish. Any suggestions for my next post, or what kind of nail designs you’d like to see?

'WET PAINT TOP COAT GLAZE'

‘WET PAINT TOP COAT GLAZE’

Are you going to give this a try? It can be done with any color scheme! What are you currently wearing? I’d love to hear! TGIF!

PS: If you guys are looking for products to try yourself and then later review on your Facebook, etc., or even in my comments (so I can gather them and put you in a future post!), I found this site called Smiley360 on ProductReviewMom when I was just searching around the Internet. I think I’ll give it a try and let you know how it goes!

COMING UP

VENIQUE 'STEP UP!'

VENIQUE ‘STEP UP!’

New nail post today — 1 more if I get the time once I am home! For now, I am showing you the gorgeous ‘Step Up!’ by Venique. It’s a beautiful, bright orange, and I feel it’s perfect for this time of year to wear alone, or use with your Halloween nail art. It’s very vibrant. I want to mention that it looks bright in the bottle and as soon as you polish your nails. It does, however, dry matte. If you want a matte finish, just leave as is and use a matte topcoat to keep it (because you need a topcoat!:). With the use of clear topcoat, I was able to achieve that shiny vibrant orange I saw in the bottle. Definitely a 5 star polish. Venique was lovely enough to send me this several months ago and I am now getting to it! So Venique, if you see this post, I’m sorry! I love your polishes! 🙂 Go take a look at their amazing, quality nail lacquers here 🙂

VENIQUE 'STEP UP!'

VENIQUE ‘STEP UP!’

I’m a little busy going away today to babysit my nephew, but I will hopefully have one more up later! Enjoy your Humpday everyone! It’s ugly and rainy here. Only 3 days until Halloween 🎃 Do you have any nail art done? Comment your blog link!
